Fashion News Body Shapes: How should you dress if you are a pear shape?

Pear shape/Triangle shape

You are a pear shape if you tend to be bottom-heavy. You are small at the top of your body, with small shoulders and breasts, a small waist and larger hips and thighs. Your calves and ankles may not have much definition. The upside to being a Pear is that you can use your small waist to easily create a gorgeous, curvy, and ultra feminine look. You might even find that you can buy tops that are not strictly plus-size because of your smaller upper body.

The main downside to being a Pear Shape is that it can be hard to find pants that fit well because this is where you carry the most of your weight. For Pear Shaped bodies, dressing well means creating the illusion of equally balanced upper and lower halves.

Dresses are a fantastic look for Pear Shapes. Invest in some gorgeous pieces, and opt for dresses that flare at the hem. It can be difficult and time-consuming to find the most flattering style of trousers for the Pear Shape, so dresses are an easier option. When choosing tops, your shoulders and bust are more petite that your lower half, so think about showing off your neckline and shoulders. V-neck tops are great for this area, and strapless will flatter your figure, too.

Steer clear of over-sized tops or anything that hides your waist and swamps your figure. Your best assets are your arms, breast and legs. Flatter them with a strapless dress or an empire style dress. You want to bring attention to your upper body, so opt for a dress with handles or one with straps. That way, your silhouette will be balanced out. If your hips are wide: go for the dress that flatters your curves without sticking to them. Do not wear dresses with petticoats. These will only accentuate your lower half.

Traditionally, Pear Shapes have been told to hide their lower halves in flowing fabrics. Warning! This can actually accentuate the areas you were trying to hide in the first place. If you feel uncomfortable with the idea of trousers or skirts that cling, you should try something that reveals the outline of your frame. For example, Boot-cut jeans are great, because they naturally taper at the end and give your bottom half a more balanced appearance.
When teamed with a brightly-colored top, you can attract the eye and draw it upwards and keep emphasizing that balance between upper and lower halves. When dressing the lower half, avoid miniskirts or shorts – this isn’t your best look. Instead aim for knee-length styles. Shoulder pads are another useful secret to balance your top and bottom halves. Now, don’t rush out and buy a pair of enormous shoulder pads that will make you look fresh off the set of Dallas ; instead, consider some subtle shoulder padding to create a stronger line for your upper body.

Fashion News Body Shapes: How should you dress if you are an apple shape?

Apple/O shape

You are an apple shape if you have small shoulders, a large waist and breasts, big hips and buttocks and slender legs. The main challenge for Apple Shape is creating the illusion of a waist and to balance the overall silhouette of the body shape. But fear not! We are here to help. Apple-shaped women keep their excess weight around the waist and middle. This can make other areas of the body seem a little out of proportion, so in order to dress the apple body, you need to direct the eye away from the waist, highlight other features. It all comes down to flaunting what you have and focusing on your best bits. If you are proud of your décolletage, then choose tops that flatter your breasts without revealing too much flesh. When it comes to choosing a top, your ample bust can sometimes be problematic. It’s all about showing the right amount of cleavage and not over-doing it.
Consider wearing ‘V’ -neck tops. For your bottom half, always try to choose styles that hang low on the waist. Also, create a ‘streamlined’ effect by wearing the same color on your top and bottom halves. Make sure you avoid anything that makes you look bulky (strong patterns, pleats and pockets). The main aim when dressing the Apple Shape is to create curves and highlight the waist. An absolute ‘must have’ item in your wardrobe – the wrap dress. This dress is your staple because it gives the illusion of gorgeous curves and shows off your décolletage. It crosses at the waist, making it look smaller, and accentuates the curves you already have.
Choose flared skirts which will also flatter you and balance out your proportions. Be sure to avoid anything with an empire line as these tend to sit on the stomach in a very unflattering way, creating a ‘pregnant’ look. Well-fitting lingerie is crucial: you must have the right bra, and body-sculpting lingerie can also flatter larger waists
It’s all about playing with the dress lines to elongate your silhouette. Select a dress with a V neckline that will lengthen your neck height or a strapless dress.
If your curviness is not balanced out, avoid wearing overly tight fabrics that highlight lumps and bumps. If you are an Apple Shape and also short, opt for short dresses. Long ones will swamp your shape and make you look bigger rather than smaller.
Dressing to success!

Fashion News Body Shapes: How should you dress if you are a Rectangle shape?

Rectangle/H shape

You are a Rectangle if are a ‘straight up and down’ figure. You have broad shoulders, flat buttocks, and no visible waistline. The advantage of the Rectangle Shape is that you can wear clothes that show off your arms and legs. It can be hard to create a curvy silhouette with this shape because your waist is not very defined, so the trick is to focus on the area underneath the bust (the empire waist).

Rectangle Shaped bodies are, in many ways, quite easy to dress, but there is no one feature in particular that you can accentuate. To dress this shape and make it look its best, you need to hint at a silhouette with curves. It’s best to choose fitted jeans, trousers which taper at the end, and pencil skirts. Always go for feminine colors and shapes.

Layering your clothes is another great way to trick the eye, and avoid plunging or low necklines at all costs. The same goes for turtlenecks: these will do your figure no favors as they will make your neck look shorter and your shoulders look wider. Accentuate your best features: the arms and legs. Don’t be afraid to choose sleeveless tops and higher hem lines. It can be difficult to learn to dress for your shape, and it can be scary to show off more skin, but you have to work your assets! A-line, high waisted and tiered skirts all look fabulous on this figure and help present the illusion of a defined waist.
Choose fitted clothes and dresses that are gathered or ruche at the waist area. This maximizes curves and will draw focus away from the tummy. Boot cut jeans are a must for Rectangle Shapes, as they create a feminine look and flatter your hips.
For this morphology, you need to create the illusion of a shape. In order to do so, an empire style works well because it will highlight your neckline and draw attention to your waist. Go for straight cuts but tight ones. Belts are a good idea, as long as you don’t wear them across your belly; it will be more flatter to wear it low on your hips.
Don’t fall into the trap of buying flared dresses. They will give you volume where you do not need it. Play around with necklines and collars that will dress up your gown.

Fashion News Body Shapes: How should you dress if you are a cone shape?

This is my first blog and am so excited that I could start sharing my new findings with all.

Do you know which body shapes are yours and how to dress to flatter it?
In the next posts, I am going to share with you the various body shapes and it dressing tips.

Let’s begin.

Cone/ V Shape/ Reversed Pyramid

You are a Cone Shape if your shoulders and breasts are large but your hips and legs are thinner. You carry most of your weight in the upper body. The great thing about the Cone Shape is that your legs are your best asset! That means you can show them off in skirts and shorts more than most curvy girls can.

With the Cone Shape body, it is important to focus on creating a more feminine shape. The bottom half needs to balance out the top half. The first key is to keep clothes on your top half simple: no padded shoulders or patterns; these will only draw attention to your top half. Instead, opt for simple cuts and pieces minimize attention to your top half. V-neck and scoop neck tops are great: they elongate the neck line.

Long tops are a good idea too because they hide the difference in proportions and will make your figure seem more svelte. On that note, shoulder pads must be kicked to the curb! These will draw attention to your top half, which is exactly what you don’t want. You need to put more focus on the hip area and go for skirts or trousers that flare. Choose A- line skirts, wide leg pants, with pleats, pockets, and anything boot-cut. You want to attract the eye to the bottom half, so think bold colors and prints.

The one massive ‘no no’ for the Cone Shape is skinny jeans and pencil skirts. We cannot emphasize this enough; you must avoid skinny jeans and pencil skirts at all costs! This will only highlight the imbalance between your upper and lower halves, making you look out of proportion.

The objective here is to minimize the length between your shoulders and your bottom. Go for empire styles or asymmetric dresses. Your legs are your best assets: be bold and show them off with a dress that comes to the knee or just above it.
Avoid boat necks or vertical ones as they will only highlight the straightness of your shoulders. Pay attention to the dress straps as well: straps that are too thin will not flatter your shoulders.
